Incredibly sad news: Actor James Gandolfini, whose performance as Tony Soprano on HBO's The Sopranos was nothing short of iconic, has passed away. He was 51.
HBO confirmed the actor's death in a statement, saying, "He was special man, a great talent, but more importantly a gentle and loving person who treated everyone no matter their title or position with equal respect."
There's no arguing that Gandolfini's portrayal of Tony Soprano changed television as we know it; without The Sopranos, and him, TV dramas would likely be very, very different today. But he was equally at home on the big screen and stage. He was a tremendous talent and will be missed.
