We've all had that soul-crushingly embarrassing—or hilarious, depending on how you look at it—moment when we realize we've been belting out the words to our favorite jam completely wrong. Right? According to a Spotify survey, the most misconstrued lyrics—known as mondegreens—are from "Blinded by the Light," by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, with the chorus rendered as: “Blinded by the light...wrapped up like a douche when you're rollin’ in the night.” (The original lyrics read: "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night.")
Other misapprehended gems include "I blow bubbles when you are not here" from Macy Gray's "I Try," and the Clash's "Rock the casbah" as "Rock the cat box" (or "Lock the cash box"? is that just us?). Stream the full playlist to brush up on your lyrical prowess before your next karaoke session, and check out our own crucial additions to the list. Did we miss any?
