Now in its 17th year, this alfresco series hosts more than 45 screenings at locations throughout the city. Besides curating smart indie docs, shorts and features, Rooftop’s organizers have a talent for procuring unique venues, such as Socrates Sculpture Park and the roof of Brooklyn Grange. To top it off, performances by buzzy music acts precede the feature. At this year’s opening weekend, catch new-shorts program “This Is What We Mean by Short Films” on Fri 10 and Frances Ha accompanied by a Q&A with its cowriters—director Noah Baumbach and star Greta Gerwig—on Sat 11.
