Salsa Party at the Brooklyn Museum
The venerable Brooklyn Museum’s Rubin Pavilion hosts this occasional twirling fiesta. Since the space is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass roof, the event is both air-conditioned and summer-rainstorm-proof. Arrive at 6pm to hone your moves with a gratis salsa lesson; at 7pm, a DJ starts playing a spicy mix of salsa, bachata, merengue and cha-cha; at 8:30pm, professional dancers from Flatbush’s Balmir Latin Dance Studio perform. Watch with a glass of wine ($7) or beer ($6) in hand from the cash bar and pick up some pointers.
