A little (okay, big) backlash and winter weather didn't stop the festive daylong pub crawl from descending on NYC on Saturday

SantaCon 2013 invades NYC

SantaCon has long been an event that many New Yorkers love to hate, but the 2013 edition provoked an unprecedented backlash. The NYPD attempted to ban it in certain neighborhoods; one of its founders told Gothamist, "I don't like the violence or the assholishness that happens"; and even the New York Times was on it, with an op-ed decrying the merry pub crawl.

Despite all of this—and a winter storm that brought snow and sleet, along with frigid temperatures, to the city—SantaCon 2013 went off without a hitch. Revelers began the day at the official kick-off in Tompkins Square Park; participants who had donated to Santa-approved charities through the event's website were also given access to parties at Webster Hall and a warehouse in Bed-Stuy later in the evening.

Of course, there were also those who saw the day simply as an opportunity to dress in costume and get totally wasted. We're just happy that plenty of merry-makers got into the spirit and created actual costumes, rather than just throwing on a Santa hat and calling it a day. (C'mon, people, at least make an effort.) Scroll through the slide show above for photos of it all.
