There are a couple of times a year when New York musical theater nuts are prone to…episodes. You know—glittery explosions of excitement, random jazz hands–ing, agonized screams of “SHE WAS ROBBED!” at dinner parties. One of these times is the Tony Awards. The other is Broadway Week (happening Sept 2–15), the upcoming two-for-one ticket extravaganza that allows theatergoers to get double seats for half the price.
This year features 19 participating shows, with everything from take-your-aunt-who’s-visiting-from-Indiana mainstays (Jersey Boys, Wicked) to the highly anticipated revival of Tennessee Williams’s darkly seething heartbreaker The Glass Menagerie and the long-awaited musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s Big Fish. Tickets go on sale August 15 at nycgo.com/broadwayweek.
To celebrate, we’ve collected some of our favorite smartphone portraits from the biggest stars of the season. No word on any reason for the selfie boom among these triple threats, but it seems as though—to borrow a phrase from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum—they’re experts in taking some pretty little picture(s).
