Street survey: New Yorkers' worst cab rides

"I'm from South Korea, and the cab drivers there are kind of rough. Once I was in kind of a ghetto neighborhood, and my cabbie started driving like he was a stunt driver in an action movie. He was going super fast down really narrow streets; he even went down a flight of stairs in the cab. Drivers here can be bad, but at least they don't do that."

"I was on my way to Yankee Stadium, and the cab I was in hit another cab and just drove off. He left a part of his bumper behind and he didn't even stop. That must have been 20 years ago, and I haven't been in a cab since. One and done."

"I once told a cab driver to take me to Penn Station, and he asked me which one. I had to spell it out: You know, the one with Madison Square Garden on top of it? He was kind of an older guy. He may have remembered the old one."

"I gave a driver a certain amount of money for the fare, and he calculated his own tip before giving me my change. I was gonna tip him, but c'mon. What if I wanted to give him a dollar? You can't do that. But I'm a New Yorker. I usually walk or take the subway to avoid that stuff."

"Taxi incidents? Just the regular stuff: accidents, you know. A cab I was in got rear-ended while on a first date once. I guess we could've stuck around to see how it ended up but we fled pretty quick. We were on a date; there's no way we wanted to deal with all that."
