New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because these will be gone before you know it. Come back next week for more of our top picks from real-estate site Zumper’s inventory.

And if you’re still struggling, try our NYC apartments guide.

W 109th St #1B

Two-bedroom on the Upper West Side, $2,550/month ($1,275 per person)

The exposed brick and hardwood floors in this renovated apartment say ultra-cool modern urban living while the location—walking distance from Central Park—screams classic NYC. Not so classic, however, is the fact that this pad boasts a dishwasher, a washer and dryer, and ample closet space. Plus, it's close to Columbia, meaning you'll be able to soak up the sun when it's nice out on the school's gorgeous campus and relive your college glory days carousing with students at neighborhood bars. What could be better?

First Ave at 101st St #4M

Three-bedroom in East Harlem, $2,895/month ($965 per person)

We'd be willing to lower our standard of living for any Manhattan apartment under $1K per person, but this place fits the affordability bill while looking pretty swank. Stainless-steel appliances, granite kitchen countertops and on-site laundry are among highlights, and no, your eyes aren't deceiving you: That's a terrace off of the living room. We can't confirm what it overlooks, but rent includes utilities, so who cares?!?

515 W 122nd St #31

Three-bedroom in West Harlem, $2,995/month ($998 per person)

If you're so over living in a walk-up, you'll be delighted to call these sun-drenched digs home, which, in addition to being in an elevator building, are fully renovated. The pet-friendly space has an alcove kitchen, shiny hardwood floors and a dishwasher. Closet space looks sparse but as a New Yorker you should be skilled enough in stowing things under your bed (and in the kitchen if you only use it for heating up takeout) to make it work.

107 Waverly Ave #2

Three-bedroom in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn; $3,599/month ($1,186 per person)

As much as we love old brownstones and charming prewar apartments, every once in a while we can get on board with a newer, contemporary home. Case in point: this this amenity-filled duplex. Consider the kitchen the heart of the home? The apartment's stainless-steel appliances are brand-spanking-new. Love outdoor space? There's a shared backyard and roof-deck access. Have a thing for high ceilings? The ones in this baby are vaulted. Swoon.

459 W 50th St #3E

Three-bedroom in Hell's Kitchen, $3,995/month ($1,331 per person)

There aren't may listing details about this space, but the location and pics lead us to believe that it's not just inhabitable, but also a pretty sweet setup. New renovations include marble finishing in the bathroom and sleek, dark-wood kitchen cabinets. We also spy a terrace and can confirm that the apartment is about 1,000 square feet. You may have to stretch your budget for this one, but just think of all the fun you'll have stuffing your face at Empanada Mama and sneaking into the pool at the Skyline Hotel.
