New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because these will be gone before you know it. Come back next week for more of our top picks from real-estate site Zumper’s inventory.

And if you’re still struggling, try our NYC apartments guide.

420 W 130th St

Three-bedroom in Harlem, $3,300/month ($1,100 per person)

Run-of-the-mill white walls not cutting it as a backdrop for your web series? Better jump on this just-renovated Harlem gem: Between its teal walls, French doors, parquet floors and arched detailing, it's got charm aplenty (and no, in this case "charm" isn't code for "things that need fixing"). Top that off with a dishwasher, an in-unit washer/dryer and proximity to Morningside Park, and that web series just went from realistic to aspirational.

Four-bedroom in Hell's Kitchen, $3,995/month ($999 per person)

Ever wished you could live closer to Times Square? No? Well there's no arguing the convenience of this centrally-located pad (hello, every subway line), not to mention the myriad restaurants and Broadway shows within a five-block radius. The space itself ain't too shabby either: renovated kitchen with granite counters, two bathrooms and high ceilings. We'd be willing to brave the throngs of tourists for that.

Two-bedroom in Astoria, $2,200/month ($1,100 per person)

Queens is calling with this cozy Astoria flat, featuring sleek stainless-steel kitchen (with a professional-grade oven) and hardwood floors. And here's something you don't see often: Heat, hot water and wi-fi are paid for by the landlord (think of all the Netflix!). Oh, and the place is next to Astor Bake Shop and the Queens Library. Unlimited pastries and books right outside our door? Sign us up!

2nd Ave & East 115th St #2

Three-bedroom in East Harlem, $3,000/month ($1,000 per person)

This place has ALL THE EXPOSED BRICK. Seriously. Plus cool wooden-beam ceilings, hardwood floors that shine like diamonds and an uncanny amount of natural light. It's what your non–New Yorker friends picture when they imagine where you live (thanks for that, movies!). All that for just a grand each. So go ahead—give 'em what they want.

18 Irving Ave #c4

Two-bedroom in Bushwick, $2,100/month ($1,050 per person)

This sun-filled abode may not look fancy, but what it lacks in extravagance it makes up for in location: You're a mere block from the Jefferson L stop and spitting distance from the 'hood's best restaurants (Northeast Kingdom, Dear Bushwick, Bunna Café… the list goes on). Okay, we'll concede that the exposed brick details and hardwood floors are a plus.
