At around $1,000 per person, these NYC abodes are actually worth the money
New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because these will be gone before you know it. Four-bedroom in Clinton Hill, $3,999/month ($999.75 per person)
Remember all those thing you gave up to live in NYC? Things like a dishwasher, a washer and dryer in your apartment, and a bedroom large enough to stretch your arms out in? Well behold—they can all be yours again in this modern, pet-friendly duplex, which features high-ceilings, brand-new stainless-steel appliances and tons of closet space. Could this pad be any cooler? Yes, actually—it boasts central air, too.

Just three blocks from the J, M and Z trains, this one-bathroom comes with the most elusive of NYC trimmings, including-built in air-conditioning, on-site laundry and a balcony. While you'll likely have to invest in a kitchen island to get your Mario Batali on (counter space is sparse) get a load of the building's shared roof deck; the purchase will be well worth it.

Views of Saint Nicholas Park and a dining alcove promptly landed this pad on our radar, as did the apartment's size, an impressive 1,330 square feet. Located in one of the city's my vibrant and bustling nabes, the space is within walking distance from the Apollo, Sylvia's and a host of other hot spots. Two bathrooms should (hopefully) keep fights over the shower at a minimum, though squabbles may break out over whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher or use the in-unit washer and dryer. Prepare accordingly.

We've seen nicer kitchens in our day, but since that's the least-used room in any NYC apartment, we're not too hung up on it. Instead, we're picturing ourselves giving tours of this renovated one-bathroom space and saying "Care to see the living room? It's straight through these beautiful French doors." That and shamelessly pointing out the sparkling hardwood floors, abundant natural light and close proximity to Carl Schurz Park. You get the picture.

The words "central air" alone are enough to set our real-estate-searching hearts a flutter, but there's even more to envy in this sprawling two-bathroom, like a washer and dryer, a granite breakfast bar and stainless-steel appliances. And before you balk at the price, check the views from the building's roof deck. Yes, that's the Freedom Tower, the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River you see. We're sold.
