New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we take a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because they will be gone before you know it. Always running late to get to the airport? Those overpriced cab rides and subway anxiety are things of the past at this Queens pad, since it’s pretty much next door to LaGuardia (though if you book a flight out of JFK, that’s on you). The space itself features plenty of sunlight, hardwood floors, and a pretty big kitchen with tons of storage and what appears to be a dishwasher.

You’re likely to get varying opinions on what to call your new neighborhood—Bushburg? Willwick?—but regardless, this apartment ain’t a bad place to be, with loads of restaurants, bars and shops within spitting distance. The place is also equipped with a brand-new kitchen and stainless-steel appliances, hardwood floors and a decent-size common area.

Think of all the culture you’ll soak up living a mere two blocks from Lincoln Center. The building features a roof deck and a fitness center, while the apartment itself boasts new appliances, a spacious kitchen (is that a breakfast nook we spy?), hardwood floors and a good amount of natural light. (It’s unclear whether that fainting couch turned bed is included or not.)

Live that sweet North Brooklyn life in this cozy prewar abode, just a three-block walk to the G train (by Greenpoint standards, convenience level: strong). Aside from its killer location, the place boasts two full bathrooms, hardwood floors, a recently renovated kitchen with a dishwasher, and the icing on the cake: a shared roof deck.

Okay, while it may not be the cheapest rental out there, this FiDi flat is a no-brainer when you consider the ridiculous number of amenities it includes. Let’s cut to the chase: It has a swanky, landscaped roof deck overlooking New York Harbor. That alone makes it a keeper in our book, but if you need more convincing, there’s a gym in the building, laundry on every floor, and a pretty posh-looking interior space.
