You may have caught wind that Alexander Wang moved his New York Fashion Week show on Saturday to…Brooklyn. “We found this incredible space, and it corresponds very well to this season’s creative concept,” Wang told Women's Wear Daily, which announced the news. Despite slushy conditions and protests from the fashion crowd, his new collection was revealed at the Duggal Greenhouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Since we all know how scary and challenging it is to get around the borough (there are no cabs in BK, right?), invitations to the event reportedly included step-by-step driving directions to the far-flung venue as well as a promo code for 30 percent off an Uber ride. But that's not all—Wang also chartered a 149-person New York Water Taxi and charter buses to get his stiletto-heeled invitees to the event.
Nevertheless, NYFW-goers had a lot to say about braving the outer-borough trek. Below, enjoy a sampling of Twitter and Instagram reactions to the Brooklyn show…which, by the way, was deemed a total knockout—on the fashion front, at least.
So, whose #EscapeFromWang Uber bill was highest? Drinks on me for the winner, but pics or it didn't happen.— Matthew Schneier (@MatthewSchneier) February 9, 2014
1 hour, 23 min cab ride to Wang. And we even caught six minutes of the show!— John Koblin (@koblin) February 9, 2014
The Alexander Wang show is like Hotel California. You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave. #nyfw— Jane Keltner deValle (@JaneKeltnerdeV) February 9, 2014
So, the Brooklyn panic has definitely been the best part of Fashion Week thus far. #Wang— Man Repeller (@ManRepeller) February 9, 2014
