At around $1,000 per person, these NYC abodes are actually worth the money
New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. People panic about not getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise, there will be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because they will be gone before you know it. Three-bedroom on the Upper West Side, $3,200/month ($1,067 per person)
This might be the most bare-bones listing we’ve ever seen—it doesn’t even have a description—but the brokers must have been counting on the photos to speak for themselves. And do they ever: Between the charming chessboard floors, wraparound windows overlooking Broadway and seemingly brand-new kitchen (with a dishwasher), we’re not sure what else needs to be said.

If “charm” tops your list of desired apartment qualities, this Greenpoint flat has it in spades, with original wall detailing, gleaming parquet floors, high ceilings, French doors, a decorative fireplace and even a chandelier. Oh, and the fact that it’s half a block from McGolrick Park doesn’t hurt.

Life in the ’Burg doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, as this prewar space proves. Not only is its super-convenient location right off the L, the place comes equipped with a dishwasher, a spacious kitchen, a shared outdoor space and loads of sunlight, plus heat and hot water are included in rent—in other words, more money for going out.

Head uptown to this railroad-style UES pad, which features a good size living and dining area, an eat-in kitchen, a decorative fireplace and tons of natural light. And with a peaceful park just across the street, you can pretty much consider yourself lucky enough to have a backyard.

This Clinton Hill abode nails the old/new appeal with a shiny, freshly updated kitchen and bathroom alongside a highly coveted exposed-brick wall (and a couple of cool benches/church pews that may or may not come with the apartment). The fact that it’s in one of our fave nabes is just icing on the cake.
