Things to do for Valentine's Day: Anti-Valentine's Day
Reverend Jen's Anti-Slam Cher Day Valentine Extravaganza
- Price band: 1/4
- Critics choice
Downtown pixie Reverend Jen serves up a special Cher-themed version of her weekly Anti-Slam—because, really, isn't Cher Day better than Valentine's Day? In addition to the usual open-mike antics, attendees can enter a raffle (prizes include vibrators) and participate in the "Art Star Dating Game." Sporting a Cher look (or Cher-adjacent look) is strongly encrouraged.

Valentine’s Day Massacre
- Price band: 1/4
- Critics choice
If smitten couples and elaborate bouquets make you want to hurl, we suggest hightailing it to experimental movie house Anthology Film Archives for a double feature of emphatically antilove fare. First up is 1972 flick We Won’t Grow Old Together (6:45pm; $10), a caustic examination of a couple who can neither stay together nor call it quits (spoiler alert: as the movie’s title suggests, the toxic relationship ultimately dissolves). After enduring their countless breakup attempts, dive into the scathingly hilarious 1981 film Modern Romance (9:15pm; $10), where the main character manages to dump his girlfriend—but then regrets it for the rest of the movie.

The Rejection Show: Valentine's Day Heartbreak Haven
- Price band: 1/4
- Critics choice
Getting rebuffed sucks—but luckily, the affable Jon Friedman is here to help. He’ll host local comics, including Elna Baker and Eliot Glazer, during a special edition of this comedy and storytelling show, which focuses on failed personal or professional projects. Tonight’s gathering will be extra juicy, as the brush-offs will include breakup letters and other amorous disses. Special “Stupid Cupid” beer-and-whiskey combos ($7) should improve your ability to see the bright side of your own sorrows.

Sons & Heirs

Still Single: A Post-Valentine's Meltdown Party

Original Plumbing's Rocco Katastrophe and Amos Mac host this throwdown for the brokenhearted (and those willing to dance among them). Average Jo and Amber Valentine spin slow jams and fast ones well into the night. For more information, go to originalplumbing.com.

Total Slacker + Hunters + Xray Eyeballs + Cassie Ramone
- Price band: 1/4
You get three guesses as to the way Total Slacker sounds. If you said hazy, retro-flavored indie pop in the vein of early Best Coast, you're right on the money. Joining the band at this alterno V-day soiree are like-minded garage outfits Hunters and Xray Eyeballs, plus Vivian Girls/the Babies lead vocalist Cassie Ramone and a DJ set from DIIV's Serpent.
