While athletes were huffing and puffing across all five boroughs last Sunday for the ING NYC Marathon, competitors were participating in a different kind of marathon at Sunshine Laundromat (860 Manhattan Ave between Milton and Noble Sts, Greenpoint, Brooklyn). The laundry spot, which is decorated like a tiki joint, is unique in that it has about ten pinball machines; patrons can play while they wait for their clothes to get clean, and anyone is welcome to try their hand at the consoles.
While runners sped by its storefront, Sunshine hosted a pinball marathon on November 3. Aaron Reiss and Jamie Hefetz of Citizen Productions were there to film some of the event's highlights; check out footage below, with interviews with the players, shots of them tending to their flippers and info on how the retro game came to the laundromat.
