Sure, the Fourth of July and the summer solstice have come and gone; but it isn’t really summer in New York until you can watch movies under the open sky, on the grass, with the lights of lower Manhattan glowing across the water. Tonight, Syfy Movies with a View kicks off its annual outdoor-screening series in Brooklyn Bridge Park with one of the best flicks out there about taking a well-deserved break: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (The 1986 comedy is also Illinois in our 50 states, 50 films list.)
This yearly cinematic rite is just one of the reasons we love this East River–side green space, one of the competitors in this week’s Park-off. (Like Brooklyn Bridge Park as much as we do? Think elsewhere is better? Tweet us with the hashtag #TONYparkoff to tell us why!) The flick starts at dusk. Check out the rest of the schedule for the series below:
July 18: Enter the Dragon
July 25: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
August 1: 8 Mile
August 8: Roman Holiday
August 15: Rocky
August 22: Vertigo
August 29: TBD based on public vote; options are Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Lost in Translation and Good Will Hunting
And in case you need furthing convincing to head there tonight, Ferris is happy to oblige. (This is ridiculous, okay. You’ll go. You’ll go. You’ll go. You’ll go.):
