"Over 84 percent of our applicants are referral-based," says Atrium's marketing director, Jamie Parks. "We've also expanded in the past year and a half. Bon Temps legal staffing, alive and kicking since 1977, is always looking for new blood in the form of legal secretaries, word processors, proofreaders, paralegals, contract attorneys and executive receptionists. While they require two years of experience at a New York City law firm, expect approximately $18 to $45 per hour, depending on the position and your qualifications. Career Group Inc.
When someone is moved to write a flattering haiku on Yelp about a temp agency, chances are the group has something going for it. CG deals with finance, advertising, real estate and fashion companies and places its temps in office, clerk, assistant, customer-service and managerial positions. President Susan Levine has more than 30 years of experience in employment agencies, and while she won't divulge names, she assures us that CG has "very desirable clients." The agency also offers 401k eligibility for employees who complete a year of service and 1,000 hours on assignment. Receptionists make $12 to $18 an hour, whereas admins rake in between $15 and $35 an hour. As Levine explains, "If you have the skills, there is a job for you." Interested parties can e-mail their resume and cover letter to CGINY@careergroupinc.com. 1212 Sixth Ave between 47th and 48th Sts (212-750-8188, careergroupinc.com)

Applicants should have good communication and computer skills, plus a corporate background. The staff can even set you up at its IT headquarters in San Francisco or Palo Alto, California, or at its newer Clarity Technology Partners division in Richmond, if you're not dead set on staying in NYC. • For real man??? I heard from my friend that used Bontemps for an assignment last month that she lies to her temporaries and make them feel that she is doing them a favor. Yo dude or dudette, she rips off her temps and I heard that her agency lies on their tax returns. Dat woman (questionable) ain't Kosher.

  • I am shocked to see Bon Temps on this list. Beatrice Kaufmann is really the worse recruiter there is. I worked with Bon Temps, and Beatrice made it very difficult for me to work. She kept calling the companies at least 4 times a day. The companies would eventually get fed up, and get rid of the Bon Temps account. Beatrice is a money hungry slob. She lacks professionalism and she lacks the necessary skills to recruit. She would give me job descriptions, and when I arrive on the assignment the duties were completely different. I worked day shifts and she would pay me $21 an hour and charge the company $36 to $38 an hour. Avoid with a passion.

  • I've been to some of these agencies and I think they are some of the worst ones I've ever dealt with. All they do is post fake ads on craigslist and then never call you for anything.

  • The owner of Bon Temps is a convicted felon, and she has a reputation for taking advantage of her temps. Be especially wary if you have an open unemployment claim- she will immediately lower your rate to the lowest legally allowed and will file false reports to the DOL if you question her. The $18-$45 rates quoted in the paragraph above are nowhere close to what she actually offers- I have spoken to numerous temps who have felt screwed ever since Bea took over operating her company post-prison. (FYI, before her arrest for 9/11 fraud, Bon Temps was run by some truly capable people and was a great place to work for. Now she pretty much runs it single handedly and is as crooked as they come.)
