Here’s how you can help make the season a little brighter for kids affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Though great strides have been made, neighborhoods that were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy are still in recovery mode. Last month, a group from Time Out went to lend a hand in Brighton Beach, where the Shorefront YM-YWHA (3300 Coney Island Ave at Brightwater Ct, Brighton Beach, Brooklyn; 718-646-1444, shorefronty.org) was heading up volunteer efforts. Now it’s the holiday season, and Shorefront is turning its attention toward raising the spirits of the community’s kids.
With that in mind, Shorefront is looking for volunteers to help assemble packages of toys for children whose families were affected by Sandy. If you want to help out, head to Shorefront’s HQ tomorrow (Thursday) morning starting at 10:30am to unload and sort donated toys, or this Sunday, December 23, at 10:30am to put the packages together. We can’t think of any pre-Christmas activity more festive than that. And even if you can’t make it out to Brighton Beach this week, you can still play Santa by making a contribution at Shorefront’s donation page.
