Watch Sesame Street and the Roots sing on Jimmy Fallon (video)
You’ll want to sing along with the timeless theme song, which the SS crew and Fallon’s invaluable house band took on last night.

Perhaps no theme song is as instantly recognizable to kids who grew up in the last 40 years as Sesame Street (apologies to Perfect Strangers and Denver, the Last Dinosaur). Since 1969, Big Bird, Snuffy, Burt, Ernie and the rest of the gang have been delivering the goods, teaching America’s children about learning, tolerance and friendship.
Jimmy Fallon and his versatile late-night house band, the Roots, are no exception, and they recently orchestrated a sing-along with the SS crew, complete with a solo by Black Thought that was probably not envisioned when Joe Raposo composed the timeless tune all those years ago. Anyone interested in learning more about the colorful history of the show and the song itself would be well advised to check out Michael Davis’s exhaustive 2008 book, Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street.
