Although the buzz around Banksy’s street-art-on-the-street show has been major, it wasn’t that long ago that graffiti was considered nothing more than vandalism (to some, it still is). This exhibit looks at the history of the form in NYC and its impact on global culture, featuring a life-size painted subway train, black books belonging to writers Serve and Keo, a vintage Cost & Revs wheatpaste, apparel by Claudia “Claw Money” Gold and plenty more artifacts for graffiti fiends to flip out over. Red Bull Studios, 218 W 18th St between Seventh and Eighth Aves. Subway: A, C, E to 14th St; L to Eighth Ave; 1 to 18th St.
