Friends with benefits: Miscast 2011
Mon Mar 7 2011
Every year since 2001, Off Broadway's MCC Theater assembles a collection of stars and gives them the wrong parts to play—why should Roundabout have all the fun?—in a gala benefit concert called Miscast. This year's edition, which celebrates the company's 25th anniversary, is set for Monday, March 14, at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Bravo TV schmooze anchor Andy Cohen will host the event: a tribute to thirty actors, directors and writers who have worked with MCC in the past (including Swoosie Kurtz, Neil LaBute, Melissa Leo, Joe Mantello, Liev Schreiber and Marisa Tomei). Among the singers performing songs from roles they should never play will be Christian Borle, Ana Gasteyer, Justin Guarini, Josh Henry, Brian d'Arcy James, Laura Osnes, Nicole Parker and Steven Pasquale. Tickets to the whole fund-raising kit and caboodle begin at $500 apiece, but you can see the concert section alone for $75--$150; click here to buy tickets. Meanwhile, the video above, compiled from the 2009 Miscast, should give you some idea of what to expect at this always-enjoyable night of misguided role calls.
