Excuse me, but the "glory days" of New York record stores was not Tower Records. It was: Sam Goody, King Karol, Record Hunter, the fab record buyer at the Doubleday's bookstore on 5th Ave. and 57th Street - and, of course, Colony. Period.
If I could open my own record store, it would be exactly like Rough Trade. Great selection of records, friendly/funny staff, they have art and music books on the second floor along with a ping pong table and area to hang out. There's also a little coffee shop inside and a music venue in the back. They have great shows here, artist signings and special events. Sometimes I stop by just to hang out. if you are into record collecting or music at all, you need to stop by!
