The Brooklyn Kitchen

This everything-cooking store is a two-level facility: The first floor shills essentials for every home chef, including bulk food ($2/lb for bulk flour), knives ($25–$300), and pots and pans (vintage Pyrex starts at $25), as well as coffeemakers and food processors. The second floor, meanwhile, is reserved for bakers (an entire wall is devoted to cookie cutters). The store also houses two teaching kitchens for classes and private parties, and an in-house butcher shop (the Meat Hook) ensures that shoppers browse to the scent of freshly made sausage.

Come for the food, stay for the classes.A short walk from the Metropolitan/Lorimer stop off the G/L, The Brooklyn Kitchen is a kitchen supply – grocery store hybrid with two fantastic spaces for hands-on classes. The knowledgeable chefs are friendly and welcoming, and instruct to various skill levels. They offer process based classes (Pickling), ethnic and seasonal classes (Chinese New Year) and utilitarian ones (One Pot Wonders).Check the schedule because they change seasonally, and no matter what the menu, beer is always served…..although its distribution is delayed during Knife Skills.

In the retail area kitchen supplies range from the weaponry of chef’s knives to unique Brooklyn-esque gifts.  Here you can find a “Good Morning Asshole” coffee mug or a butcher’s map of pig parts tea towel.

Food for purchase is more of the specialty variety with organic fruits and vegetables, locally crafted sauces and spices and a butcher (The Meat Hook) which is moving locations on Feb 26th to its own location.
