Thank goodness for the Ginger Man, which is a legitimate craft beer option in midtown. It has a great selection of beers that include both pretty well-known breweries (Stone, Sierra Nevada), local breweries (Brooklyn, Barrier) and then some classics but not as well-knowns (Chimay, Weinstephaner) plus a ton of others. Because of its location, it is always busy here after work hours, and the crowd often doesn't appreciate the beer options, so much so that the bartenders tend to get a little miffed if you just go up and ask for an IPA. You're likely to be greeted with a gruff, "Which one?" which resulted in a lot of low tips, I noticed. Still an awesome respite for beer drinkers. But the best part might be these two options on the menu: a soft pretzel with homemade beer cheese for $3.50 or a loaded baked potato for a pricier $7.50. Are those not the best bar snack options ever?

From the street, The Ginger Man looks like every other [vaguely] Irish pub in Midtown. But if you're a beer nerd (or, "hop head", as I hear them being called nowadays), you'd be a fool to pass it up. This place is home to one of the most extensive draft (70+)  and bottle (150+ HOLY SHIT!)  lists in the city. And yes, quality does reign supreme over quantity, but their selection is top notch as well. While many of them are yearlong standards, quite a few are rotating seasonal specialties-a lot of which are not particularly easy to find (especially in this part of town).

I'd recommend beers to try, but c'mon, you know what you like. My only suggestion is to order the better version of what you normally drink. Because you won't have that opportunity at many other spots.

The vibe is unsurprisingly laid back. Head there on a Wednesday night and you'll most likely be rubbing elbows with corporate suits trying to blow off steam before heading home to Westchester. Somehow The Ginger Man has managed not to foster too much a touristy following, which I attribute to them walking in, failing to see Bud Light on the menu, and immediately leaving in disgust.
