Owners Pierluigi Palazzo and Rossella Tedesco named their restaurant after their favorite treat (soon to be yours as well). A specialty of the area around Bologna, gnocchi fritti are fried, puffy pockets of dough served piping hot with a plate of thinly sliced prosciutto, salami and capocollo. Wrap the meat around the gnocco, stuff it inside, or eat it separately. At $8.50, the price is right, too. Main courses include the usual assortment of pastas and secondi, but it’s the fried gnocchi and the giant garden space that will keep you coming back.

Italian owned and operated, this place is the real deal. The owners and waitstaff are very friendly and accommodating of big last-minute groups, which is a rarity in the neighborhood, especially on the weekends. From the pizza maker's fresh traditionally Italian pies to the various pasta options (anything with a cream sauce and mushrooms is delicious), this is Italian comfort food done well. On a packed night, the place is lively, but you can still try for a table in the back garden—open in the summer and covered up in the winter. Here's hoping this place sticks around for a long time.
