Brunchgoers looking to venture beyond eggs Benedict would do well to check out this weekend-only pop-up, housed inside East Village eatery Resto Leon. The young Filipinos behind the project showcase the food they grew up on, with a conviviality that’s easy to love. A glossary on the menu and the earnest service helped us summon the cojones to sample fare that’s as challenging as it is delicious—poached eggs Imelda served on doughy rounds of pan de sal with taro leaves stewed in pungent shrimp paste, plus sizzling sisig, a super-savory mix of shredded pig’s snout, ear, cheek and belly. We left feeling educated, stuffed and hopeful that this honest experiment turns into something more permanent.
