Gyrotonic New York at Studio Riverside
Description
Former ballerina Leda Franklin trained with Gyrotonic creator Juliu Horvath for seven years before opening Gyrotonic New York at Studio Riverside in 1992. It's now the longest-running Gyro center in the city—and a choice workout spot for famous New Yorkers and regular UWSers alike. The uptown location, which has every type of specialized equipment as well as several of Horvath's hand-built machines, offers one-on-one sessions ($75 an hour for Gyrotonic; $65 for an hour of Gyrokinesis) as well as group classes. Some compare the stretching, relaxing effect of Gyro's arcing movements to that of a full-body massage, but those who still want some muscular manipulation from a foreign set of hands should check out the studio's massage room.
