  • I just got back from cinco de mayo @ South street seaport, and might be a little bit toasted, s o you'll excuse my language and content, but you should hire me and my friend/baby momma to wri te for your rag. We have a script (subscription, get with the lingo) and keep up with it. As mu ch as we enjoy your publication, you're missing out on a lot of what's actually going on b/w th e city and brooklyn(the city is manhattan, if you don't get that right away you're either form long island, upstate(anything north of the bronx, including westchester, don't whine about it) or a non NYer(jersey ain't NY, deal with it now or we can never be friends) ), As free-lance ba rtenders(pvt party's, hammestein, No Quarter, town tavern, intimo, 2x4, etc) and hard(harder th an you) partiers, we have a pretty good grasp on what's going on out here. So you should hook u s up with a writing spot(upcoming social events, comedy, anti-political, whatever) for TimeOut magazine. Tell us what you need from us to make this happen so we can keep this train a movin. Thank you for your time, Capt Awesome and Jillian

  • Hello, My name is Amanda Monin and I am a graduate of The New School in Manhattan, New York. There I e arned a degree in psychology and heavily concentrated in writing. I have been a devoted reader of your magazine for many years and would love to be a contributing writer. I currently have a blog www.brookeblogging.blogspot.com. Below is a sample from my blog: There are a variety of p ieces in which to choose from. 516 448 7534 Paula Dean's Torrid Love Affair With Food Celebrity chef Paula Deen, famous for her southern drawl and hospitality, and of course her art ery clogging dishes, announced this week that she was hiding a massive secret. For two years sh e has been portraying an image of infallibility, in that you can eat as much succulent food as you wish without paying any consequences. However Ms. Dean has been paying those consequences f or some time but withholding them from the public. She had been diagnosed with type two diabete s, while continuing to cook, as well as eat her calorie laden dishes while full well knowing wh at she was doing to herself and the public, even as she was becoming newly educated on her medi cal condition. Many critics in the media have wondered why Dean decided to come out now in orde r to let the public in on her personal struggle. In an exclusive interview on January 17th, Dea n chose to appear on the Today show to address the constant rumors circulating about her health . While chatting nervously with Al Roker, she discussed the responsibility many feel she has to cook in a healthier manner in which she currently does on her three shows currently airing on the food network. Surprisingly, (or not surprisingly to her harsh critics) she revealed that sh e does not have plans to cut out her preferred dishes such as deep fried butter. Deen appeared to have found a quick remedy. Through her celebrity, she obtained a lucrative deal with drug co mpany Novo Nordisk and is currently on a promotional "health" tour in order praise their newest diabetes drug "Victoza." I, along with many others are puzzled as to how this qualifies as a " health" project of sorts. Besides becoming a drug pusher, Deen is in no way committing to a new found healthy lifestyle or changing her diet in any way shape or form. I personally believe al ong with celebrity chefs such as Anthony Bourdain, that Paula Deen is a public figure that is u sing her influence in a deeply detrimental way. Dean has a platform, similar to the way that al l celebrities do and she is choosing to use hers irresponsibly. Our country is massively overwe ight and she is perpetuating the idea that it is perf
