If you're looking for a cuppa, you've come to the right place. Newly opened and already a thriving success, Auer Gourmet is the small adjunct to the family's chocolate and candied fruit shop next door, which has been knocking out sweets to locals for nearly 200 years. Now, though, Auer has decided it's time for something savoury.

Functioning mainly as a tearoom, Auer Gourmet also has a wide selection of (canned and jarred) deli goods, all of them savoury, and many of them used in the small but perfectly formed lunch menu. Expect a plat du jour (confit de canard, say, or smoked salmon salad) alongside several simple dishes built around the shop's products (foie gras, soupe de poisson - that sort of thing). These are really little more than assembly jobs, albeit filling the midday gap with considerable style, but the main reason to come here is to sample the selection of Kusmi leaf teas.

These teas, from the luxury Paris-based importer, encompass a comprehensive range of classic brews (from English Breakfast through to Darjeeling and decaff Earl Grey), which tend to come served nature, maybe with a slice of lemon on the side (you'll need to ask for milk). But to find the most exciting teas on the menu, you'll need to go a little off-piste from the norm. Take the 'Spicy Chocolate', for example, which is a richly infused variety with all the depth and punch of a Viennese hot chocolate. Or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, the 'Thé Vert à la Menthe de Nanah' is a marriage of Chinese gunpowder green tea and the classic Moroccan mint infusion. The result is like a spa treatment in a cup - perfect for laying to rest a heavy lunch or chasing away the ghost of the previous evening's wine.

Sit inside, at one of the sweet little 'tea shoppe' tables or outside on the terrace, in the shade of the imposing Opéra.
