L'Eglise et Le Monastère Notre Dame de Cimiez review Rate it

The church itself, which is unremarkable save for its triptych of Louis Bréa altarpieces, is not the best reason to visit this small complex affiliated to the adjoining monastery. More interesting are the muralled cloisters next door and the intriguing Musée Fransiscan, where the agonising deaths of monastic martyrs are documented. The monastery's gardens are a paradisiacal enclave of shaded cypress walkways and fragrant arbours, offering a wonderful view of the city's coastline and rooftops. In the cemetery next door, the graves of Matisse and Raoul Dufy gaze out over the same panorama.
