On the 50th anniversary of Algerian independence, the Magnum gallery has dug out the archives of three photo reporters whose work witnessed the turbulence of decolonisation. The exhibition starts with the travels of Kryn Taconis who, in 1957, captured the training sessions of the National Liberation Front. Then we see General de Gaulle’s arrival and the ensuing protests through the lens of Nicolas Tikhomiroff in 1960. After the violence and the uniforms, we finally get to the social panorama captured by Marc Riboud: from the Evian talks to the celebration of independence, this exhibition immortalises the end of the conflict.
