Get your tissues at the ready as Swedish choreographer Mats Ek bows out with a special series of performances at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées. Known for his irreverent sense of humour, Ek, now 70 years old, celebrates his retirement with a diverse programme featuring three ballets from different points in his career. It all starts with the energetic ‘She Was Black’, followed by ‘Solo for Two’, previously known as ‘Smoke’ and featuring music from Arvo Pärt. The third piece is ‘Hâche’, which was conceived only this year. Based around music from Albinoni, the performance revolves around the two dancers Ana Laguna and Yvan Auzely, who help draw the Scandinavian director’s career to a brilliant, poignant close.
