Feisty, charismatic singer and rapper Nneka was born and raised in the volatile Niger Delta. She now lives in Germany, and her music plays like a prettier take on M.I.A.’s frantic fusion of styles, as evidenced on her Soul is Heavy. Her lyrics are in both English and Igbo and she sources Marley, Nas and Nina Simone.
