With its IKEA furniture, plastic pot plants and array of muffins and doughnuts, this café is more British than Parisian in feel. What it lacks in local ambience it makes up for in the service, free Wi-Fi and extensive range of lunch options: bagels, sandwiches, salads, cakes and tarts – it has it all. The downside is that because of a general lack of customers (we barely saw a trickle during two hours spent using the Wi-Fi), the patisseries and sweet treats on display aren’t always super-fresh. But on a good day, Brook’s is probably your best option for a takeaway bite to eat by the canal (which is a stone’s throw away). It’s just a shame that somewhere with such a great location, lovely staff and large premises can be so characterless.
