Trattoria da Maurizio restaurant in Paris may be a short stroll from Montparnasse Tower, but you step through the door and you're in Naples, simple as that. The terra cotta and marbled walls are the merest backdrop for dozens of paintings, frescoes and images of the old country and the colour continues both onto the vibrantly adorned tables and the superb food. Irresistible antipasti are set out on a two-tiered table bursting with colour while a wood pizza-oven crackles in the background. Maurizio himself will make his way to your table singing Rossini and balancing dishes like saltimbocca alla romana, gnocchi alla sorrentine, pastas, salads, tarta di nonna along his arms. A bottle of olive oil takes pride of place in the centre of the table next to your bottle of Italian wine. When you've lost your passion for life, Maurizio could likely give you a serving of that, too.
