Kraft hot-dog

The fashion for smartening up street food continues with Kraft in the Hôtel de Ville neighbourhood. Established in spring 2015 by friends of the team at Schwartz’s Deli, this hangout takes the humble hot dog seriously. The vibe is chatty and relaxed, and despite the small dimensions of the space, hanging out at the bar is very appealing. Many of the clientele are hurried businessmen, grabbing lunch before zooming off on their scooters.

The menu is straightforward: four hot dogs, from the €6 Avocado to the €5 Trop Choux (Alsatian choucroute sausage and mustard), and from the €5.50 Cheesy with runny cheddar to the €4 Classic. Adding in extras like coleslaw and spicy nachos with guacamole can make the bill mount up, but the set ‘Kraft menu’ keeps things below €10. And the finished product delivers: the juicy sausage with generous helpings of confit onions and fries more than does the job.
