Few restaurants claim to have changed the world but Brasserie Balzar does just that. This historic brasserie, situated close to the famous Sorbonne has long played host to the great minds of Paris. Not only have the unnamed great minds discussed, planned and debated between these hallowed Louis Madeline designed walls but household names too. Indeed it was here in Brasserie Balzar in 1947 that Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre first discussed the possibility of joining the resistance. One can almost feel the presence of those literary luminaries while seated on moleskin banquettes under large polished mirrors and art deco carved wood panelling, enjoying the very same traditional French brasserie fare that Camus and Sartre would have been offered. A tavern at the turn of the century, Balzac was changed in to a brasserie as early as 1931.
