Le Buisson Ardent restaurant in the heart of Paris’ 5th arrondissement has all the antique charm of the coaching inn that it once was. With panelling and murals from the 1920’s, antique lighting, trad banquettes and a chalkboard special list, you could be stepping into the Paris of Hemingway. The rooms to the rear are in today’s sleek, monochrome style – and very handsome too. Chef Arnaud Van Santen offers both traditional and innovative French gastronomy in dishes like pork knuckle braised in orange sauce with polenta, or prawn-scallop kebab and crusty pasta with veg and peanuts. The service is excellent, as is the short, focussed wine list. There’s a tasting menu that shouldn’t be missed. Le Buisson Ardent is one of Paris’ best restaurants.
