Its often difficult to choose between the many lovely restaurants on Ile Saint Louis but L’Orangerie betters most others, partly thanks to its oh-so-Parisian feel, partly due to a menu who’s reputation precedes it. A modernised interior only hints at the forty years as a restaurant, not to mention time spent owned by Jean-Claude Brialy, prolific ‘Nouvelle Vague’ actor, whose influence remains in the cinematic atmosphere which oozes from every corner, every work of art and somehow every dramatic dish. Yet the surroundings are merely the precursor to the main feature – the menu. Here the kitchen uses much imagination, offering modern and simple dishes with the kind of inventive sophistication that has your mind whirring along with your tastebuds. It’s this menu which has cemented L’Orangerie’s status as a must try restaurant.
