The heady sound of popping corks is virtually part of the soundrack at Lounge Royal, a fashionable French restaurant and lounge bar next to Metro Porte de la Chapelle in Paris 18th. An abbreviation of ‘lounge royal’, Lounge Royal takes its name from its décor; floor to ceiling, all 250sq ft is swathed in a regal red. Velvet chairs, spotlighting, coloured lanterns and cool music join in to create a moody lounge atmosphere that easily turns into a high-octane party once the DJ starts playing and the cocktails come out. To eat? A subtle balance of solid French classics and international stars like an all-American hamburger, and wok-fried chicken noodles. Meal over, retreat to Lounge Royal’s heated terrace; it’s big.
