Born to a family of Chinese immigrants who trade in leather, Alain isn't your quintessential French vigneron with a ruddy face and a country accent. He explains his predilection for natural and biodynamic wines (which constitute 90% of his stock) by drawing on his Buddhist faith: his vines are treated with respect and in accordance with the lunar phases, as his beliefs mandate. And who's to question them, when the results are this good? The next time you're boozing by the canal on a Friday evening, give the local Monoprix a miss and head to Au Quai instead. Your palate will thank you.
