Helmut Newton’s works merge the art of photography with something intensely exciting. Something provocative, that smells of sweat and dips with luxury perfume. Something teeming with sparkling jewels and lipstick, that flashes its breasts in the most unexpected ways. Since the end of the 1960s, the angry mania with which the German photographer explicitly sexualizes the female figure – and life in general – has unfailingly outraged purists who are revolted by his lascivious images in the glossed pages of the world’s greatest fashion magazines, which they often label misogynistic. And yet for Newton, all this was just a game. This sparkling exhibition demonstrates the euphoric genius of Newton’s works, which can be found even in its smallest, most obscure details.
