For a decade between the wars, the junction of boulevards Raspail and Montparnasse was the centre of the known universe, home to Man Ray, Cocteau and Lost Generation Yanks. Eight decades on, Le Select is the best of its inevitable tourist traps. Sure, its pricey menu is short on authenticity (‘Cockney Brunch’ of eggs, bacon and jam at €15), but happy hour from 7pm makes history affordable, and the cocktail and whisky list is extensive.
