The oldest church in Paris. Most of the present structure is 12th-century, but some ornate carved capitals and the tower remain from the 11th. Illustrious tombs include that of Jean-Casimir, the deposed King of Poland, Abbot of St-Germain in 1669. The funeral stone of Descartes is in the second chapel; his ashes have been here since 1819.
