L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon

5 rue de Montalembert, 7th

This is star chef Joël Robuchon’s Paris take on a New York coffee-shop-cum-sushi-and-tapas-bar: lacquer interior and two U-shaped bars with stools. The food is fine, the menu split into three different formules: start with Spanish ham, a large seasonal salad, or maybe an assortment of tasting plates. Then you can either go classic (a steak), fanciful (vitello tonnato, veal in tuna and anchovy sauce) or lush (cannelloni of Bresse chicken and foie gras).

Basically, a tourist trap with a chef's name, expensive prices and terrible attitude. Arrived on time and pushed to the hotel's bar by a "fashionista" who could only care about clients if they name was Paris or Gisele. Two types of menu and no clear explanation, "if you have that well then have it or don't", the day's wine suggestion - we took it, delicious, bloody should be when we found out at the bill that it was 25euros a glass! Finished the meal, no good-byes, no thank you and definitely no one to take my coat from - for the price, WOW - DON'T GO. Posted on Mar 26 2008 15:12
