The palatial, multi-purpose Hôtel de Ville is both the heart of the city administration and a place to entertain visiting dignitaries. Modest Paris-themed exhibitions are held in the Salon d’accueil; the rest of the building, accessible only by guided tour (weekly, book in advance), is awash with marble statues, crystal chandeliers and allegorical painted ceilings.
