La Mosquée de Paris

2 pl du Puits-de-l’Ermite, 5th

The mosque’s stunning green and white square minaret is the spiritual heart of France’s Algerian-dominated Muslim population. Built from 1922 to 1926 in Hispano-Moorish style, with elements inspired by the Alhambra and Fez’s Mosque Bou-Inania, the mosque is a series of buildings and courtyards in three sections: religious (for serious worshippers and not inquisitive tourists); scholarly (Islamic school and library); and, via rue Geoffroy-St-Hilaire, commercial (the domed hammam, Turkish baths, and relaxing Moorish tearoom).
