Musée National du Moyen Age – Thermes de Cluny

6 pl Paul-Painlevé, 5th

The national museum of medieval art is best known for the lovely allegorical Lady and the Unicorn tapestry cycle, but it also has important collections of medieval sculpture and enamels. The building itself – built atop a Gallo-Roman baths complex – is a rare example of 15th-century secular Gothic architecture; the baths, in characteristic Roman bands of stone and brick masonry, are the finest Roman remains to be found in Paris. Recent acquisitions include the illuminated manuscript L’Ascension du Christ from the Abbey of Cluny, dating to the 12th century. The museum also presents a programme of medieval concerts.
