Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle

36 rue Geoffroy-St-Hilaire, 2 rue Bouffon or pl Valhubert, 5th

The brilliant renovations to the Grande Galerie de l’Evolution, located within the Jardin des Plantes, have taken the city’s natural history museum out of the dinosaur age. Architect Paul Chemyetov set the glass-sided lifts and the latest audio-visual techniques into the 19th-century iron-framed structure. Sections are dedicated to sea creatures (including a 14m-long skeleton of a whale), mammals, ecological and demographic problems, and endangered and extinct species. The separate Galerie d’Anatomie Comparée et de Paléontologie contains more than a million skeletons and a fossil collection of world importance.
