Lapérouse

51 quai des Grands-Augustins, 6th

One of the most romantic spots in Paris, Lapérouse was formerly a rendezvous for French politicians and their mistresses; the tiny private dining rooms upstairs used to lock from the inside. Chef Alain Hacquard does a modern take on classic French cooking: his beef fillet is smoked for a complex flavour; tender saddle of rabbit is flavoured with lavender and rosemary. This seductive riverside dining room is best savoured at night.

The food was good but overpriced, and on the night we visited, Laperouse had a very rowdy party with loud music in one of the private rooms - it certainly wasn't 'one of the most romantic spots in Paris' Posted on Jan 21 2007 21:12
